No wonder some women are unconsciously passive aggressive when expressing anger, sadness, or frustration. For years, they have been subjected to so much gaslighting that they can no longer express themselves in a way that feels authentic to them.

They say, “I’m sorry” before giving their opinion. In an email or text message, they place a smiley face next to a serious question or concern, thereby reducing the impact of having to express their true feelings.

You know how it looks: “You’re late :D ”

These are the same women who stay in relationships they don’t belong in, who don’t follow their dreams, who withdraw from the kind of life they want to live.

Why Women Aren’t Crazy (via lagrandefille)

I hate when people claim that women are crazy or complicated or don’t know what they want because fuck you. When a woman is vocal about her opinions, desires, feelings, you call her a bitch or crazy or hysterical. Women have been taught that the only way to communicate while maintaining their physical and emotional safety is to be indirect.

i feel like i have to filter my feelings somehow at all times. i made someone cry a few weeks ago at school. i didn’t even insult him. i was expressing a critique about his art. at art school. when the guys do it, they’re informed and ‘probably right.’ when the women do it, we’re crazy overachievers. i find myself having to say, ‘i mean, maybe it’s just me, but…’ or ‘well, this is just my opinion…’ all the time. why am i afraid to say what i really think when no one else seems to be?

There are so many times that I have to be very careful about how I say things, because I’m instantly labeled as a ‘bitch’. I’m really effin’ tired of it.

This seems like a great place to warm-up my writing for the day.

I’ve always been a bit of a tom-boy. My friends consist mostly of boys, and as a person I am comfortable with my sexual ambiguity. If I were to water this down, you coud find evidence in my bisexuality, my ‘alpha-female’ nature, and my general gravitation (and election) to places of leadership. I’m an organized person with people skills and a mind for creative solutions. I like to get dirty and build things, I am inclined toward engineering and working with my hands. I am also decidedly feminine at times, and can dress sexy with the best of them.

These are all things that come naturally to me, and I never thought about any of them as something that might cause difficulty until they were pointed out to me and, started causing difficulty. As a stage-manager for theatrical and musical events, when I say “Jump,” you and everyone else in earshot fucking jumps. That’s my job. That’s how you have a successful production and I earn my money. I hate when I am chastised and snickered at for being a) young and b) A GIRL. I am so sure. This has become such an issue in some places that I have had people fired. So be it. I can’t show up to work and be taken seriously? I show up to work and I am condescended to, HIT ON and so disrespected that I can’t be productive? And that makes me a bitch? HA. People are so shallow. My identity does not consist of how I dress, my age, or my sex. Further, when I am accused of emotional over-reaction, I’ll have it noted that I am so emotionally stable you couldn’t throw anything at me I couldn’t handle, and I practice regularly keeping my opinions and feeling from interfering with my logic, and I am very proud of that accomplishment.

Also, some of the most awesome guys I’ve met are ones who can speak freely about their tender emotions… which is not something I consider specifically feminine. That’s called being in touch with how you feel, a really healthy and important thing to be able to do. We need to break the world of this outlook of what if girl and what is boy. That kind of ignorance and labeling is what slows down  our entire process of development as a species and civilization. Don’t we have better things to argue about and get upset at each other for? -_-
